VPN

To use your computer within the ETH network or to use wireless LAN you have to establish a VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection first.

On this page you can find instructions how to use this service.

If you need more informations to VPN on the ETHZ you can write a mail to support@ee.ethz.ch or see the pages of the IT services. There you can also find informations for your n.ethz account.

Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"

To use VPN on Mac OS X 10.6, you don't need any special software (e.g. Cisco VPN Client). Follow the instructions on this page to set up your VPN connection: VPN on Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard".

Windows 64 bit client

Follow the procedures outlined here: http://www.id.ethz.ch/services/list/vpn/vpn_vista/index_EN But be aware that the configuration needs to be different in two points:

1.) the connection needs to be specified as unencrypted;

2.) the VPN server name needs to read vpn.ethz.ch, as opposed to vpn-cluster.ethz.ch used by the 32-bit preconfigured encrypted VPN-client software supplied by IDES.
