Welcome at the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering!

Please read the text below carefully as we try to give you a condensed overview about the dos and don'ts while using our infrastructure!

We try to leave you as much freedom in using the EE infrastructure as possible. In this we assume that you consider the following rules:

  • Responsible usage of resources goes without saying. Printing in particular results in direct costs for the department.
  • The Internet does not exist in a societal vacuum. Email, the World Wide Web, etc. are governed by the same rules as your offline life.
  • Cracking is un-cool! Both on our systems and on others.
  • Your password is your personal secret! Under no circumstances you should ever share your password (no exceptions). If you want to share data with somebody, ask us, there are ways of doing this securely.

  • The highest priority when using ITET Computers have activities related to your studies and research (read the posters in the computer labs).
  • The ETH's Acceptable Usage Policy [1] is imperative.

  • The Microelectronics Design Center makes available industrial CAE/CAD tools for designing VLSI chips and printed circuit boards. Usage of those tools is confined to teaching and academic research on behalf of ETH Zurich and is subject to extra license [2] regulations.

[1] The german and english links to the ETH wide BOT can be found under https://computing.ee.ethz.ch/Workstations/UsagePolicy

Beside these rules there are some other links we encourage you to follow:

  • There is some short usage policy you should read when using our workstations [3]

  • We have a comprehensive wiki [4] where you can find a lot of information on how to use our infrastructure, what we - the IT Support Group of D-ITET - can offer you, which services are available and so on. Give it a look!
