Printing: Solving printer problems

Stopping a running print job
To stop a running print job, first try pressing the printer's "Cancel" button (usually the red one). Some more pages will come out, but most of the time, this will cancel the current print job. If this method doesn't work, simply switch off the printer's power and wait a few seconds. Then switch it on again. BUT! You have to be aware, that powering off the printer, means you have in effect destroyed any jobs that have already been sent to that particular printer! The stopped job is automatically removed from the print server, so the next queued job (if there is one left) is sent to the printer. Stopping Printers by force (e.g. switching them off) can cause paper jams. If you feel that you are manually challenged in any way, please call support@ee.ethz.ch for assistance! We will gladly remove any stuck paper for you.
A printer's toner cartridge is empty or the maintenance kit must be replaced
Contact the responsible person of the institute to replace it. If there is no one, contact ISG.EE support (write an e-mail to support@ee.ethz.ch or make a phone call to 20909).
A printer runs out of paper
If a printer's paper tray is empty, just fill the tray with the stock paper that should be provided close by the printer in open view. Please feed the printer tray(s) with the (correct) paper type. To find out which tray should contain what sort of paper or transparencies, there should be a label on the printer with something like VPP blabla and a picture of the model on it, with arrows pointing towards each individual drawer. It is absolutely important, to follow this rule to the dot. The printers trays are configured by VPP, and it's a bad idea to change any settings. If there is no paper available, contact the responsible person of the institute to replace it. If there is no one, contact ISG.EE support (write an e-mail to support@ee.ethz.ch or make a phone call to 20909).
A printer seems to have a paper jam
If you don't manage to resolve the jam yourself (please be careful when opening the printer), contact the responsible person of the institute to fix it. If there is no one, contact ISG.EE support (write an e-mail to support@ee.ethz.ch or make a phone call to 20909). We will gladly help!
