Issue
Each time Outlook (classic, not new) is started on Windows 11, the Windows Security prompt for authentication appears. Even after entering the password and selecting "Remember my credentials," the window continues to pop up regularly. Although the prompt can be closed by clicking "Cancel" and emails still sync, this does not fully resolve the issue, as the window reappears after some time.
Solution
The existing email profile needs to be deleted/removed. (Important: Address books and local PST files should be exported as a precaution before proceeding.) Once the profile is removed, the email client should be reconfigured following the instructions on the ETH Confluence Website.
Step-by-step guide
Here’s a step-by-step guide for deleting and reconfiguring the Outlook profile. The existing email profile needs to be deleted and reconfigured. Follow these steps:
1. Export your data (Optional but recommended):
- Open Outlook.
Go to File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
Select Export to a file, then choose Outlook Data File (.pst).
- Select the email account you want to back up, ensure you include subfolders, and save the PST file to a safe location.
2. Remove the existing Outlook profile:
- Close Outlook completely.
Open the Control Panel on your computer.
Go to Mail (Microsoft Outlook). In some cases, you may need to switch the view to "Small Icons" or "Large Icons" to find this option.
In the Mail Setup window, click on Show Profiles.
Select the profile you want to remove, then click Remove.
- Confirm the removal of the profile.
Note: PST files, such as archives, will not be deleted with this step, but it’s always best to back up. See step 1.
3. Create a new profile:
In the same Mail Setup window, click Add to create a new profile.
- Follow the prompts to add your email account and configure Outlook settings.
Once configured, set the new profile as the default by selecting it and clicking Always use this profile.
4. Reconfigure the account:
After creating the new profile, reconfigure your email account by following the instructions on the ETH Confluence Website.
By following these steps, the issue with the authentication prompt should be resolved.
