Connect to WLAN eduroam with Windows 10

Since mid November 2018 the eduroam WLAN is the preferred wireless network at ETH. This is a step-by-step guide for Windows 10 to connect to eduroam. If you're using WLAN in close proximity to a non-ETH building also offering eduroam WLAN (like the University Hospital) use the eth WLAN instead.

WLAN/VPN Password

  • Make sure you know your WLAN/VPN password before continuing!
  • Make sure WLAN is activated on your computer

Open Wi-Fi settings

In the Windows start menu

  • Type wifi

  • Select Change Wi-Fi settings

Delete known networks eth-5, eth, public-5 and public

In Wi-Fi settings

  • Select Manage known networks

A list of known networks appears

  • Select each of the networks eth-5, eth, public-5 public if they're available and klick on Forget

Add new network eduroam

In Wi-Fi settings

  • Select Show avaliable networks

A list of available networks appears

  • Select eduroam

  • Klick Connect

A dialog requesting "User name" and "Password" appears

  • Enter <your-nethz-username>@<realm>-net.ethz.ch into the field User name

  • Replace <your-nethz-username> with your NETHZ username

  • Replace <realm> with staff or student according to your affiliation with ETH. Realms available to you can be checked after logging in at realms.ethz.ch.

  • Enter your WLAN/VPN password in the the field Password

  • Klick on OK

A dialog "Continue connecting? ..." appears

  • Klick on Continue connecting
