How to configure a wired connection for 802.1x authorization

On OSX/ iOS you have to install a new profile to get all the authorization and security settings you need to connect automatically to the network. Proceed as follows:

  1. Via Browser choose website https://www.iphone.ethz.ch/

  2. Click 'Continue' and enter your ETH account credentials:

    As username use:
    <username>@student-net.ethz.ch, if your are student at ETH
    <username>@staff-net.ethz.ch, if your are a staff member of ETH
    <username>@guest-net.ethz.ch, if your are a guest at ETH
    
    As password, enter your ETH network password
  3. In section 'Available configurations' choose for ETH Zurich

  4. In section 'WLAN Setup' choose SSID eth

  5. Your Mac is now going to install the profile. In the upcoming window choose 'continue'.
  6. Enter your ETH account credentials again and click 'Install' (enter the admin password of your local machine).

Now the new profile has been installed. You can now see it in 'System Preferences'-> Networks. From there you can enable (or disable) the 802.1x functionallity by clicking 'Advanced'->'Tab:802.1x' and tick Enable automatic connection.
