Terms of Use for wiss-mitarb delivery list

The wiss-mitarb mailing list is meant as a platform to publish scientific announcements on. Messages that bear no academic or scientific nature are not allowed to be sent to this mailing list. A special case are tenant requests and rental offers. Because housing in Zurich is known to be a scarce resource, the Department Coordinator has decided on February 9th 2011, that such postings are allowed with the following limitations.

  • Rethink posting your mail only to the D-ITET employees. On http://www.wohnen.ethz.ch/index_EN you can also reach people from the University and the whole ETH.

  • The Mail including the Attachment should not exceed a maximum size of 8MB. /!\ Please also see the following notes to the file size (Mail servers are not to be mistaken with file servers)

  • Large attachments can be placed inside ~/public_html. In your mail you can hyperlink to them (e.g. http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~<username>/myflat.pdf)

Please also take into account the following:

  • Be sparingly with your words. Every sent byte is copied hundreds of times and saved to network drives as many times over. This is valuable and also expensive space that is used and often not vacated for a long time.

  • Mail servers are not to be mistaken with file servers. Keep in mind, that attachments are automatically encoded into text and this causes the attachment to be blown up by a factor of 1,5. The best thing to do, is to send hyperlinks in mails - so the actual Data is on a webserver and not in the email itself.

  • Leave out any unneccessary formatting. These days Emails are read on various devices, the less formatting a message contains, the less likely it will cause problems for the recipient and will therefore always be readable.

Nutzungsregeln fuer wiss-mitarb Verteilerliste
