How to activate german Umlaute on english keyboards

The settings unfortuanately need to be made different Desktop environments:

KDE

K-Button -> System Settings -> Input Devices -> Layouts

and then configure the desired layouts.

System -> Preferences -> Keyboard -> Tab:Layouts -> Button:Options... -> Entry:Compose Key position -> Option:Left Win -> close
