If you have received an e-mail from the Quota-Guard application which notifies you about having exceeded the quota of one of your accounts, you have the following options to resolve diskspace or filecount limit issues:

  • Delete files you no longer need.

  • Empty trash/ recycle bin folders on your desktop. The trash can be emptied from the command line as well with the command gio trash --empty.

  • Move unused files to an archive (e.g. Lagoon archive), to the scratch or netscratch folders (the latter two are not secured against data loss, use them only for reproducible or unimportant data).

  • Order more disk space at your local IT contact or course mentor.

  • Check the disk space usage history on https://quotaview.ee.ethz.ch/

  • You may also use the following applications to get an overview over the disk space usage in your home:

    • Linux command line: ncdu

    • Windows: treesize
