ETH Passwords

All members of ETH Zurich have an ETH user account.

ETH user name

The ETH user name is generated and assigned automatically by the system and cannot be changed – not even in the event of change of the member’s surname (e.g. after marriage).

ETH Passwords

Three ETH password exist:

1. ETH password for web applications, AAI (LDAP)
2. ETH password for email (Active Directory)
3. ETH network password

Initial ETH password

All members of ETH Zurich receive at the beginning of their study or employment an ETH user name and an ETH password for web applications, AAI (LDAP). They must change this password as soon as possible.

ETH Password change

For the management of your passwords as well as for other functions you must use the web-​application Web Center. To log in, use your ETH user name and your ETH password for web applications, AAI (LDAP). The video-​tutorial shows you how to set or change your ETH passwords.

Password change

Please follow the official ID howto for changing your NETHZ password. Please read the complete howto before changing your password. This might help preventing account lockouts.

Problems and solutions

• Self managed Windows 7 client causes account lockouts:

  By default, Windows 7 stores credentials for connected network resources. You find these credentials in Control Panel \ Credential Manager. If you find network resources that use the NETHZ credentials, please delete them.
